Aesiron Kor-Azor wrote:I previously thought it was near impossible to mobilise an MMO-FPS, but after playing PS2... why isn't this game more like it? Dust 514 as a PS2-like game only with the Amarr/Caldari vs Gallente/Minmatar, combined with lore and more solid and fictional foundations would make PS2 look like a kid's game... But instead you, CCP, have to adopt this 'matchmaking' thing. I advise you to make a constant world and base it on conquering systems, and simplifying the engine and sorting out the broken aspects... So, you know the entire game isn't based around matchmaking, right?
Also, Planetside 2 is terrible. They made 2000 players per continent their entire focus and delivered NO content to make people even want to fight.
The game has had 3 server merges since launch and still can't pop-cap a server even on the weekends. All "higher-level" features such as functioning warp-gates, additional continents, additional bases, and the ability to actually push a faction off of a continent via warpgate capturing have all been set to "unscheduled" on the Planetside 2 Roadmap some of those Dust Doomsayers have been saying is the greatest thing ever.
But those things pale in importance to the Instanced Battle Islands for MLG support that came in the last game update.
I realize I'm going on a bit, but you shouldn't ever use an SOE game as an example of how to do [i]anything/i] right. There are two rules of Sony Online Entertainment:
- They are incapable of making good games
- On the rare occasion that they do make a good (Star Wars Galaxies) or even semi-playable (Planetside) game, they will always destroy it with a completely unneeded content update (New Game Experience for SWG; Battle Frame Robotics for Planetside).

DUST Fiend wrote:I haven't looked in to PS2 much because from what little I've seen, it's not for me. All I do know, is that DUST NEEDS persistent worlds / areas if it ever wants to be known as an MMO. Also we NEED ways to interact with our environment. Being limited to jump and sprint....yea...boring We have a persistent world already, but I think what we need is a way to really feel that when you're the people on the ground, and not just when you look a the starmap.
Right now, this game is more of an MMO that Planetside 2 will likely ever be because SOE listens to nothing but community feedback, and their community is almost worse than our's can get sometimes.
For example, SOE has proposed almost a dozen ways of implementing PvE content into Planetside 2, and they've been shouted down by the playerbase every time for "trying to water down the hardcore PvP-only shooter experience". |

To put this into perspective, my outfit, The Enclave, uses a combination of mostly Heavy Assault players with the Striker multi-rocket seeker-launcher, and a group of Mosquitos equipped with anti-armor rocket pods.
That combination is completely unstoppable no matter what our enemies do. While our HA's shoot down anything that clears the horizon and insta-blap vehicles with volleys of hundreds of rockets, the Mosquitos search out all the enemy's mobile spawn points and destroy them.
I mean, tanks are a joke in that game. Anything you can do with a tank can be done far better by an aircraft.
Oh, and the Flash ATV gets a 40mm automatic grenade launcher AND a cloak! Look up BuzzCutPsycho on YouTube and you can see how balanced THAT little asset is. |

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH You're funny. It's good to know the truth can be funny, fanboy. Because the fact that I've stated clearly and concisely the issues I have with this game makes me a fanboy of it.
I was a fanboy of Planetside 2. I even got in for the Tech Test. I used to talk to my friends about it back when they lifted the NDA, hoping they would join me.
Then I watched SOE launch the Closed Beta build with no fixes and proceed to nerf all the starter gear to force you to pay $7 per gun to avoid having to grind for a week or more just to get ONE gun, and then ignore every feature to make it feel like you were actually doing something in the game in favor of things like the Instanced Battle Islands for ******* MLG that just launched in the last patch.
Functioning warpgates, the ability to push a faction off a continent, the new swamp continent, new base designs, even the concept of player owned and operated bases.
All of those have been set to "unscheduled" on the great "Planetside 2 Roadmap" in favor of MLG support and more cosmetic assets, most of which are $5 each or more.
See anything "good" in there? |

SOE's "long term roadmap" is probably not even going to reach its third year.
EVE started out almost as shaky as Dust and is now the only MMO in history to have increased in player count every single year for as long as it's been running. |

The PS2 has the full support of the MAG community and will serve as the spiritual successor.
It's going to be great to see the MAG community back on a game that has actual scale. Oh wow, I can't wait to see all of you on the Planetside 2 forums when you get the rude awakening that's coming to you.
I don't mean to stir a pot that's not even cooking yet, but isn't it odd how they haven't mentioned whether or not the PS4 client will have its own dedicated servers or not?
Also consider that there have been three server merges since release, and you can still barely get a full continent unless there's an Alert for it, at which point the lag makes the entire continent unplayable. |

Ware a biohazard suit when u do I just joined and saw an instantly more mature community which functions well. Not seen a single nerf/complaint on the forums so far... that's PC for you.. here we're stuck with 8 year olds on their second FPS YOu realize they have sections that they vigorously patrol to keep complaints in them, right. You should have been on the forums a few weeks back when they introduced the Zealot Overdrive Engine to the Vanu MAX suits and we were all drowning in a sea of super-speed lobster-suits. |

I don't know. Planetside is kind of...Like what DUST promised to be. You know? The MMOFPS where the things you did had an impact, and was team oriented etc. For some reason, people still praise DUST, so why can't I like Planetside 2? QFFuckingT Things you do have an impact? Are you high? Have you even played the game at all? I mean, I hope you people are just deluded and have actually played the PC version, because I honestly feel sorry for you all if you haven't even played it on PC and are expecting it to be any better on the PS4. A. My outfit, The Enclave, does a mass air drop on a base. B. The enemies attempt to zerg us off the capture point for about 5 minutes, give or take C. EVERYONE leaves to go ghost-cap some empty base somewhere else If we have too many victories, the other outfits will just jump to other continents en masse to go stomp on randoms. Notice also that that video was not long after a Game Update, which bring people back for short periods before they all leave again. My outfit managed to get 128 players online for a full 4 platoons of us on the day of the Game Update that brought out the lattice system, the feature that promised to finally bring the massive battles we all started playing for into the game. 4 days later we could barely muster up 80, and I could long in as a non-premium member and switch continents during prime-time without even hitting a queue. Kinda hard to have fun when every fight ends in the Vanu rolling in and rolfstomping everyone in the retardedly OP ZOE MAXes* that it took SOE forever to fix, and people STILL preferred to go cap empty bases for easy XP rather than fight. *Terran Republic MAX suits get an ability that locks them to the ground and increases their RoF and reload speed. New Conglomerate get a riot shield that deflects all damage that hits it at the cost of not being able to use your weapons. The Vanu Sovereignty got the Zealot Overdrive Engine, which allowed them to move as fast as normal infantry, increased the damage their shots did, and only had a minor penalty to hp as a downside. Clearly SOE is the superior company when it comes to game balance.
